Creative Ways To Learn Piano

From the classroom to the internet, there is no shortage of opportunities for anyone who has the desire to learn piano.  It can be a challenge to schedule anything around family, work and chores.  However, it can be done and you will be singing a different tune before you know it.  Well ok, maybe not singing.  But you will be playing and that’s what it is all about.

Many high school curriculums offer specialty piano courses.  If you are a student, or your child is entering high school, consider visiting the music department to inquire about their options for students who want to learn piano.  These elective courses generally last only one semester, but may be longer depending upon the school’s music department.  If the student is a beginner, this will be an excellent way for him/her to learn piano.  For those who are already familiar with the technique, it will serve as a fun way to brush up on their skills.  Courses are often available at both high school and/or college levels.

If you are not a student, perhaps the best way to learn piano is by visiting your local specialty music store and expressing your interest.  The store owner or manager may be able to provide you with the name of a qualified person in your area who offers piano lessons.  On occasion, the stores themselves will offer lessons to the public.  The frequency of the lessons vary and classes will generally begin in the evenings.  If your schedule doesn’t permit attending classes, it may be a good idea to find another way to learn piano.

If you are having trouble working around a work schedule and cannot attend regular classes, but still want to learn piano, there are other options.  Browse through the telephone directory in search of a piano tutor.  By hiring a professional tutor, he/she will be able to be more flexible and work around your schedule better than regularly scheduled classes can.  If you own a piano, the tutor can come to your home.  If you do not, then you will likely have to spend time at the home of your tutor.  If you have a very hectic schedule and never know for certain when you will be available, hiring a tutor may be easier than signing up for classes.  In addition, instructional videos may also be an asset in helping you learn piano.

If you are still in need of a way to learn piano, consider taking an online course.  Depending on the instruction, some require a fee and others do not.  An actual instruction course will likely come with a price, but you can often read free online tutorials or even learn to play by ear.  Many of the world’s most famous musicians are self-taught, so don’t be to intimidated to learn piano alone.  There is no doubt that it is more challenging, and will take time and patience, but it can be done.
